Real Money Online Casinos in the USA

Real Money Online Casinos: Quick Answer

Real money online casinos are legal and live in seven US states: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island. To play, you have to be 21 or older and physically inside one of those states. Stick to the sites on your state regulator’s list, because those are the only licensed ones.

Maine has also passed an online casino law, but no site has launched there yet.

We check every regulator on the list every month; checking what State they are licensed in and their overall ratings. Welcome offers differ by state and change often, so read the terms in the casino’s app for your state before you deposit.

My Rating, out of 5, uses my own experience with the casino, as well as taking a look at what other players have to say.

Keep in mind that casinos get licensed one state at a time. A brand you play at home might not be open one state over, so check the tab again if you travel. Only DraftKings and FanDuel are licensed in Connecticut, for example, and of the brands we profiled, PlayStar is only on New Jersey’s list.

Fortune Scouts has no affiliate deals with any casino on this page. We don’t link to them, none of them paid to be listed, and we don’t earn money from any listing. The order comes from My Rating and nothing else.

Best Real Money Online Casinos

These are my five highest-rated casinos across all seven states. Each one is licensed only in the states shown, so check that yours is on the list before you sign up.

Our #1 Pick

1. Stardust Casino: Fast Payouts and Live Blackjack

  • 4.4/5
    My Rating
  • NJ, PA
    Licensed In

Stardust is my top pick if you play in New Jersey or Pennsylvania. It’s Boyd Gaming’s online casino, and those are the only two states where it’s licensed.

What I Like

  • PayPal, Venmo, card, and Play+ withdrawals are listed at up to 12 hours after approval
  • 31 blackjack tables, including a $500 high-roller table
  • 42 live dealer games, with tables you can sort by buy-in

What I Don’t Like

  • Some versions of its welcome offer carry 20x playthrough, and table games and video poker do not count toward it
  • Some games freeze or fail to load, including during free spins

Why It Ranks: Blackjack is what I play most, and Stardust pairs fast payouts with a big selection of blackjack and live dealer tables. Its problems are small next to that.

2. Fanatics Casino: Best for Small Deposits

  • 3.9/5
    My Rating
  • NJ, PA, MI, WV
    Licensed In

Fanatics is the one I’d point you to if you want to start small. It’s licensed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia.

What I Like

  • A $5 minimum deposit in Michigan and New Jersey, and a $1 minimum withdrawal
  • Its own games, like the WWE slot WrestleMania: Road to Gold
  • An app that runs smoothly, and casino play earns FanCash rewards

What I Don’t Like

  • Reaching a real person on support can be slow
  • A few players report an account suspended right after a deposit

Why It Ranks: The low minimums let you try a licensed casino without putting much money in. The app is easy to use, too.

3. PlayStar Casino: Best Customer Support

  • 3.9/5
    My Rating
  • NJ
    Licensed In

PlayStar has the best support in this group, but it runs only in New Jersey, so it’s only an option if you play there.

What I Like

  • A real person by phone, live chat, or email
  • Blackjack promos like the BlackjackPot, a $1,000 draw for every 500 blackjacks on marked tables
  • 35 live dealer games, and cash withdrawals at the Ocean Casino Resort cage

What I Don’t Like

  • 30x wagering on the deposit match, so a $500 match means $15,000 in bets
  • No Venmo or online banking
  • Large withdrawals can take up to 10 days
  • Live chat is not open 24 hours a day

Why It Ranks: I’d play here for the support and the promos for regular players. Just skip the deposit match, because the 30x wagering makes it a bad deal.

4. Hard Rock Bet Casino: Best Bonus Terms

  • 3.8/5
    My Rating
  • NJ, MI
    Licensed In

Hard Rock Bet has the best welcome terms on this list, and it’s licensed in New Jersey and Michigan.

What I Like

  • 500 bonus spins plus up to $1,000 back on your first 24 hours of slot losses, both with 1x playthrough
  • 96 blackjack versions
  • PayPal, Venmo, Play+, and Apple Pay payouts listed at 24 to 48 hours

What I Don’t Like

  • Players report frozen withdrawals and accounts held for document checks after a win
  • Live chat closes at midnight, and one major review rates support as its weakest area
  • The app can crash during bonus rounds

Why It Ranks: With 1x playthrough, a new player has a real chance to turn the bonus into cash. That makes these the fairest welcome terms in this group.

5. Golden Nugget Online Casino: Best for Slots and Jackpots

  • 3.8/5
    My Rating
  • NJ, PA, MI, WV
    Licensed In

Golden Nugget is my pick for slot players. DraftKings runs it, and it’s licensed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia.

What I Like

  • More than 3,000 slots and close to 1,000 jackpot games
  • A $5 bet gets 500 Flex Spins, with 1x playthrough on the winnings
  • 48 live dealer games and live chat 24 hours a day

What I Don’t Like

  • Players report locked accounts and repeated document requests when they withdraw
  • No credit card deposits
  • Weak rewards: its Crowns convert at 550 to $1

Why It Ranks: If you mostly play slots, you get more than 3,000 of them here, and you can get started with $5.

Top Real Money Casinos Compared

Look at the playthrough column first. It tells you more about an offer than the size of the bonus does: 1x means you bet the bonus once before it turns into cash, while 30x means you bet it 30 times.

How We Pick and Rate Licensed Online Casinos

I only list a casino if it’s on the state regulator’s licensed list. That’s where I start, because New Jersey’s regulator says any site that isn’t on its list isn’t approved.

Once a casino makes the list, here’s what I look at to rate it:

  • Licensed states, checked against each regulator’s list every month
  • Offer terms: wagering, expiry, and minimum deposit
  • How payouts work and what players report about payout delays
  • The app, including its iOS App Store rating

And no casino can pay us for a higher rating or a better spot.

Offer Terms to Check Before You Deposit

I always check the wagering first, because it decides whether a bonus is worth taking. One Reddit player said a $500 deposit match at Borgata Online came with $7,500 in wagering. That’s 15 times the bonus.

The same casino can also run a different offer in each state. BetMGM’s headline offer in New Jersey is a 100% deposit match up to $1,000 plus a $25 casino bonus. In Pennsylvania, it’s up to 1,000 spins. So read the terms for your state before you deposit, not the ones a friend in another state got.

Offer terms and what to check in each one
TermWhat It MeansWhat to Check
WageringThe total you must bet before bonus money can be withdrawnThe multiple, and whether it applies to the bonus or the deposit plus the bonus
ExpiryThe number of days you have to use the bonus and finish the wageringWhen the clock starts and what you lose if it runs out
Minimum depositThe smallest deposit that qualifies for the offerWhether a smaller deposit gets nothing at all
Eligible gamesThe games where bets count toward wageringWhether the games you want to play count, and how much
Withdrawable balanceThe part of your balance you can cash out nowWhich amount the app marks as withdrawable before you request a payout

Real Money Games

Real Money Casino Games

You play casino games against the house. The casino sets the rules, and each game has its own house edge, so the game you pick matters as much as the site.

  • Real Money Slots
  • Real Money Blackjack
  • Real Money Roulette
  • Real Money Live Dealer
  • Real Money Baccarat
  • Real Money Craps

Real Money Poker Games

Online poker is different. You play against other players, and the site takes a small cut of each pot, called the rake. Casino poker games, like Three Card Poker and video poker, are the exception, since you play those against the house.

Real Money Casino Banking

Licensed casinos take debit cards, online banking, PayPal, and Play+ prepaid cards, and the method you pick decides how fast you get paid. Players report PayPal payouts landing about 12 to 48 hours after the casino approves them. Standard bank transfers can take 2 to 5 business days.

If you were planning to use crypto, you can’t. Licensed sites in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and West Virginia don’t take cryptocurrency.

One thing to know in New Jersey: if you deposited with a card, the casino pays you back to that card first, up to the amount you put in with it.

Real Money Casino Bonuses

Most welcome offers at licensed casinos are a deposit match, bonus spins, or both. Don’t pick an offer because the number is big. The wagering matters more, because it decides how much of that bonus you’ll ever be able to withdraw.

How to Join a Real Money Casino

Signing up at a real money online casino only takes a few minutes, as long as you have your ID ready before you start.

  1. Check Your State and Age

You have to be 21 or older and physically inside one of the seven live states when you play.

  2. Pick a Casino From Your State’s Tab

Download its app or go to its website. Stick to the tab for your state, because a site that isn’t on your regulator’s list isn’t approved.

  3. Create Your Account and Verify Your Identity

You’ll set a password, and the casino has to confirm who you are and that you’re 21. In New Jersey, that check uses a government ID or an approved remote check of your records. In Michigan, you also confirm the account can’t be shared.

  4. Allow the Location Check

The app checks that you’re inside the state when you log in, and it won’t take bets from outside it. In Michigan and West Virginia, the rules require the check to keep running for your whole session, so leave location turned on while you play.

  5. Read the Offer Terms, Then Deposit

Read the terms before you put any money in. Some offers make you opt in before your first deposit, and you can lose the offer if you skip that step.

  6. Set a Deposit Limit

I’d set one before your first bet. New Jersey sites must offer daily, weekly, and monthly deposit limits, spend limits, a daily time limit, and a break of at least 72 hours. Pennsylvania sites must offer deposit and loss limits, a daily time limit, and a cap on any single bet.

Real Money Online Casino FAQ

Which states have legal real money online casinos in the US?
There are seven: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Connecticut, Delaware, and Rhode Island. Delaware and New Jersey were first, back in 2013. Rhode Island is the newest, and it launched in 2024.
Can I play at a real money online casino if I’m visiting a legal state?
Yes, as long as you’re 21 and physically inside the state when you bet. What the law cares about is where you are, not where you live. Once you leave the state, the app’s location check blocks your bets, so keep that in mind on a trip.
How old do you have to be to play at a real money online casino?
You have to be 21 in all seven states. The casino checks your age when you open your account. In Michigan, you also confirm that you know the legal age is 21.
What real money games can I play at licensed online casinos?
Most licensed casinos offer slots, blackjack, roulette, video poker, baccarat, and craps. Each casino’s lobby is a little different, though, so check the game list in the app for your state before you deposit.
Are offshore and sweepstakes casinos licensed in my state?
No. No state regulator lists them as licensed online casinos, and only the sites on your state’s list are approved. Michigan’s regulator has gone further. It called one company’s so-called sweepstakes unlicensed online lotteries or raffles under state law.
Play it as entertainment. Decide your deposit limit before you claim any offer, and stop when you reach it. Set a budget before you start, take breaks, and step away if it stops being fun. Free, confidential help is available 24/7: call or text 1-800-MY-RESET (1-800-697-3738), the National Problem Gambling Helpline. In New Jersey, call 1-800-GAMBLER. 21+ in regulated states.
